Day 2 ... "A flat day"

What a joy to wake up today having been briefed the night before by Terry that today was a flat easy day...

Terry was the Captain of the day today and lied, blatantly. You can tell when he's lying as his nipples stick out...

The garmin route data download is available here:

For the newbies, try pressing player to see the heart rate v elevation v speed.

I have just seen a cardiologist, honest.

It started off well with good speed and nice roads, then we hit about 10 miles of farm tracks with mud and hills and stuff cows make everywhere.

Then a monster downhill into Tiverton that nearly ended in tears on one bend as it tightened. Max speed at one stage today was 43.6 mph  .  Not a problem as my eyes were clamped shut.

After the usual punctures (running total 3) we went mad to get to Wellington for a radio interview and a meeting with the Heart FM Angels. Bit late and they were nowhere to be seen! How rude. Still the chaps, Peter and Foz got their head together to sort out the tube...

Still,  Sue who runs the cafe at Willowbrook Garden Centre was ace and obviously Howard made use of Tommy Rule 1 (his son). It reads, when stopped keep eating...

The staff at the garden centre even gave up their tips which was extremely generous.

Then some nice roads (flat and smooth) for the last 20 miles but with a strong crosswind which threatened to derail us at times. Hot by now, but not for Howard:

The Premier Inn near Weston super Mare is ace and the food was ace compared to the Little Chef.

Usual early kip as we are tired and old!

175 miles down, 699 to go.

Great!
